Let’s talk about relationship lies. Or, at best, what you thought was a relationship. How do you breakup with someone you were never in a relationship with? How do you handle detachment from a connection you singlehandedly ignited in your head?
Odindin firebender. How you take date person wey no date you back?
It always starts up easy. It’s as innocent as it sounds. First physical time together, wonderful companion. Second time, an absolute hit. Text messages. FaceTimes. Unending conversations. Shoulder to cry on. Stomach to lay on. Feelings joined the group chat. “Stop it, coconut head”. 3am conversations. Brush in hand, head on the floor and legs in the air. All this and yet, no clarity. Just vibes.
One thing about clarity? Avoiding a label, even in a simple conversation is dishonesty.
And it goes on. No definition. Just friendship that moves on to greater heights. Then you meet the parents. And marriage happens. Here comes the kids. Successful career. Successful partner. Life is good. But you’re quick to forget, Dear Comrade, it’s all in your head.
Finally, one day, in the middle of a conversation, he mentions something about a girlfriend coming around and how he’d love it if you met up as he has said alot of things about you to girl x.
Palpitations. Headaches. Panic attacks.
That moment when Jesus calmed the sea. You feel like your heart is the sea. But it’s anything but calm now. You take a deep breath. Maybe he’s joking. Maybe he’s trying to find out if you love him too.
“So what are we?”, you finally ask.
“We’re nothing but pencils in the hands of the creator”.
You panic. You remember the exchange of affirmations. “But I said I love you several times and you responded too”.
He laughs. “Of course, I love you” he responds. “I love you with Jesus joy in my heart”
A response I stan.
